Momentum Safety Alert FAQ

Momentum Safety Alert is brought to you by Momentum Insure. It is available to active car and home insurance policyholders plus one other nominated user of the policyholder’s choosing.

Should you want access to the Momentum Safety Alert feature for yourself and an additional user, you must take out car and home insurance cover with Momentum Insure.

  1. Download the Momentum App.
  2. Once the app is downloaded, create a profile using the Momentum App, allowing you to log in with your login details used on the Momentum website.
    NB: To activate your Safety Alert feature on the Momentum App, you’ll need to be an active Momentum Insure car and home insurance policyholder.
  3. A pop-up notification will appear in the Momentum App to register for the Safety Alert feature. If this message does not appear, once logged in to the app, go to the menu (bottom right), tap on “Settings” and then “Safety Alert settings” to register.
  4. You will need to click on the pop-up notification to request your details to ensure we have the correct information captured for usage during an initiated button push for armed response.
  5. The Safety Alert feature will be activated on the Momentum App once your details have been captured correctly.
  6. You’ll have access to the Safety Alert button in both the pre and post-login environment.
  1. Log into the Momentum App.
  2. Once you have logged in via your password or biometrics, go to the menu (bottom right), tap on “Settings” then “Safety Alert settings".
  3. Click on "Add or remove nominated user."
  4. Complete the form with the nominated user's details.
  5. Click "Submit".
    Your nominated user will receive an email with instructions on how to install the Momentum App and register for their Safety Alert feature.

The control centre's contact number will be displayed within the Safety Alert feature for you to dial immediately once selected in instances where the Safety Alert feature is unavailable to you (and/or your nominated user) due to a technical error.

You (and/or your nominated user) must ensure that the Momentum App's phone/dialling permission settings have been activated for the feature to work. If you have any queries or require technical support with the App, call 0860 999 932 or email [email protected]. Please provide us with your identity number/policy number or email address to assist us in resolving your query.

The app requires you to have your mobile data and location permission settings enabled when initiating Safety Alert.

Yes, the feature will be functional during loadshedding; however, for you (and your nominated user) to access and initiate Safety Alert, you must ensure that your mobile devices are charged and that you have access to mobile data.

In the instance where you (and/or your nominated user) have already initiated the panic button feature and your phone battery is depleted, our control centre agents will still dispatch armed response to your last known location to ensure that you are safe. This will also apply to instances where your (and/or your nominated user’s) call is dropped; your mobile device is damaged and/or stolen while waiting for armed response to arrive.

The Safety Alert feature is user-friendly; once you have registered and activated the feature; you (and/or your nominated user) can initiate a Safety Alert with a single touch of the button via the Momentum App.

Yes, the feature allows you (or your nominated user) to initiate the Safety Alert at any location, within South Africa, if you think your personal safety is at risk.

You must ensure that your GPS location permissions are enabled for armed response to respond.

All personal data captured on the Momentum App for the Safety Alert feature is protected and will only be used to contact you when the Safety Alert is initiated.

The only cost incurred will be data costs subject to your network service provider. Safety Alert is available to all Momentum Insure car and home insurance policyholders and one nominated user at no cost via the Momentum App which is also free to download from the Apple App store, Google Play Store and Hauwei AppGallery.

Active Momentum Insure car and home insurance policyholders who have downloaded and registered for the Safety Alert feature plus one nominated user who can be a family member, friend or even a neighbour.

A Safety Alert can be initiated anywhere in South Africa regardless of GPS accuracy settings; however, you must ensure that your location settings permissions are enabled for the Momentum App to ensure you receive assistance at the correct location.

Interactive messaging between clients and the Safety Alert feature, within the App, is currently not available. Once you have initiated an alert, you will receive a phone call, live updates on the app and SMSes on the location of the dispatched armed responder and their estimated time of arrival.

Policyholders can nominate 1 additional user to enjoy the Safety Alert feature free of charge. The nominated user can be anyone from a family member, relative, a friend, your child (minors included), a parent, etc.

The feature can also be used if the registered user witnesses an incident where the safety of others is at risk.

The control centre agent will be in contact with you immediately after initiating a Safety Alert.

If the Safety Alert feature is unavailable to you due to a technical error, a notification will be displayed on the Safety Alert feature on the Momentum App, with the control centre’s contact number for you to dial immediately.

You must ensure that your phone/dialling permission settings on the Momentum App have been activated for the feature to work.

Safety Alert is only available to active Momentum Insure car and home insurance policyholders. Should you take out a Momentum Insure policy, you will then be able to register for this feature and share it with a nominated user.

Yes, if you have opted into the Momentum Insure Safety Returns rewards program, you can earn points for registering for Safety Alert.

No, this feature is free to active car and home insurance policyholders, and one nominated user, covered by Momentum Insure, and is an added value feature to keep you safe on your journey to success.

The feature is free, however, you will be charged for data usage as per the rates prescribed by your service provider.

Your nominated user can be anyone from a family member, relative, a friend, your child (minors included), a parent, etc. The policyholder can nominate a minor, if they are the parent or legal guardian of the minor and agree to accept all the Terms and Conditions on the minor’s behalf.

If the nominee has yet to activate the Momentum Safety Alert feature, a "Status: Pending” message will be displayed on the nominee details screen in the App. The policyholder can remove the nominee at any time by clicking on the “Remove Nominee” button on the App. Once the nominee is removed, the policyholder can nominate someone else.

Yes, the policyholder and the nominated user will no longer have access to the Safety Alert feature once the policy lapses in terms of the policy terms and conditions. Safety Alert is exclusively available to all active Momentum Insure car and home insurance policyholders.

Yes, if the policyholder cancels Safety Alert, the feature will be deactivated for the nominee too.

You must ensure that you have reactivated Safety Alert first by clicking on the menu (top left), going to “Settings” and reactivating Safety Alert. Once you have reactivated Safety Alert will you be able to add a nominated user by completing the form and clicking “Submit.”
